Who we are and what we do
In the 1960's, the area that is now Milton Keynes was identified as the location for a new town as part of an extensive building project to address the lack of housing and overcrowding in London and the South East.
The population of Milton Keynes has grown since then from around 40,000 in the late 1960's to an estimated 210,000 in 2012.
To make sure Milton Keynes' vital infrastructure services i.e. roads, utilities, health services and schools are sufficiently included with any developments, Growing MK research, plan and devise projects to include these services and works closely with developers, residents and Council members.

The Local Investment Plan (LIP) sets out the next phase of development and infrastructure plans for Milton Keynes and will involve public agencies, the third sector, business and communities.

The Eastern Expansion Area (405 hectares) extends to the A421 to the south and the A5130 and Broughton Brook to the west. There are a number of existing uses within the area including business and employment land and farm buildings but the site is generally low-lying, relatively flat land in agricultural use.

The Western Expansion Area (WEA) covers the area between Stony Stratford, Two Mile Ash and Crownhill. This land is currently mainly used for agriculture and covers about 360 hectares of land.
