Milton Keynes is a fully parished Borough. A total of 45 Town and Parish Councils or Meetings serve the residents of Milton Keynes.

Milton Keynes Council is fully committed to working in partnership with Parishes to achieve greater community participation and local involvement in service delivery.

The evening is for Ward and Parish Councillors, and other stakeholders (council employees from both tiers and external partners) all of whom have an investment in improving the strength of the relationship between the government tiers.
The format of the evening will consist of a presentation on the main findings from the questionnaire, following which attendees will be split into breakout sessions aimed at discussing key issues.

Though the questionnaire responses will help to provide a basis for this Event it will also be an opportunity for those who did not complete the questionnaire to have their say. The evening will allow us to further our understanding of ideas that are supported and begin to establish together what should happen next and how changes should be undertaken.

The Working Together Project was completed earlier this year with a National Conference and the publication of a report by the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA).

The report made several recommendations of areas that should be improved to enhance the relationship between the 45 Milton Keynes Parish/Town councils and Milton Keynes Council.

Although the attached form advises that Parks and Open Spaces need to receive the completed applications at least 4 weeks before any event, we would suggest that the applications are submitted when you are drafting your budget and plan/programme of events for the following year. The Local Government and Rating Act 1997 gave District Councils (including Unitary Councils such as Milton Keynes) the power to review the whole or part of their areas and make recommendations for changes in parish boundaries and consequential changes in electoral arrangements. Later legislation gave the Council powers to make those changes without reference to the Secretary of State.
