Decoration and Disturbance Allowances
A decoration allowance is a payment given to a tenant for one of the following reasons:
- a new tenant going into their new home
- following major repairs
- or programmed works within their home e.g. re-plastering
The Council decides how much the payment will be by calculating it on a room to room basis.
The decoration allowance is issued in a voucher form that tenants can exchange for goods in most DIY stores. (NB this only applies for goods classed as decoration materials.) The voucher must be used within 6 months of issue.
Your local
Housing Office will advise if you can claim for a decoration allowance for major/programmed works.
